We had a great time at the Gardens by the Bay on Tuesday afternoon. Although it was slightly drizzling, it was cool and beautiful in the Flower Dome. Our focus for this learning journey was the “Maths Trail”.

The children were divided into small groups and they had to listen to the instructions given by their group leaders (the Parent Volunteers) as well as the teachers.

When we entered the Flower Dome, we were greeted by the different species of cacti and succulent plants. The children were very excited to identify the many different shapes of the cacti. Most of the cacti that they saw were circles and ovals. We estimated the height of a circular cactus and measured it using a long ruler. We found out that it was 10 centimetres tall!

Another fun activity was counting the steps we took to walk to a big tree in the dome. The children did a great job taking turns and counting their steps to reach the tree. They took at least 20 steps to reach it. Good counting, K1s!

Throughout the Maths trail, we spotted flowers of different colours, trees of different heights as well as plants of different shapes and sizes. We engaged in many other fun mathematical activities while exploring through the gardens of the Baobabs, Flower Fields, Mediterranean Garden, South African Garden and many more.

It was a wonderful day of counting and measuring at the Gardens by the Bay. We definitely look forward to many more fun Maths Trails!
