Today's topic was about a simple machine called a Pulley. A pulley is a simple machine consisting of a wheel with a grooved rim in which a pulled rope or chain can run to change the direction of the pull and thereby lift a load. We watched a video of a pulley and then we discussed more on the topic. Next, we created a pulley with blocks and poles. We used a string and a bucket to lift the loads. Everyone had a chance to lift their loads. We had so much fun as we could see some loads are heavier and some are lighter to lift.
Today's topic was State of Matter (solid, liquid and gas). Our teacher read us a story related to the topic. We then discussed the form of solids, such as tables, chairs, books, shoes and bags. The form of liquid can be found in drinking water, sea water, rain and water from the tap. Lastly, a form of gas is the air around us, steam from hot water and the gas from a balloon. Next, we searched for the things in the classroom that were in one of these three categories (solid, liquid and gas). We took out our water bottles as we knew that water is a form of liquid. We found many things that were in the form of solid. Our teacher then blew a balloon and it had gas in the balloon. Besides this, we also did an experiment, changing a solid form into liquid. Our teacher brought in a bowl of ice. Everyone had the opportunity to touch and feel the ice. The ice is the form of solid. After waiting for a while, the ice melted and changed into water. We were so excited to see the changes. We then watched a video of a snowman melting. We loved to see the snowman, hence, we decided to paint a snowman on a piece of paper.
After the Learning Journey trip, we discussed the experience that we had at Changi Airport. We talked about things that are machines, such as the elevator, a digital clock, a sky train, a baggage trolley, the information screen booth, AED Defibrillator, the escalator and many more. We then drew a picture of our favourite machine. Lastly, we made a craftwork baggage trolley.
I would like to thank all parents for taking the time off from work to support your child's learning journey at the Airport. I hope you and your child had a great fun learning, exploring and discovering on how things work at the Changi Airport today! Here are some photos of the N2B children and parents in action!
