The month of August is when Singapore celebrates her 52nd Birthday.
The Gardens by the Bay celebrates its 5th anniversary this year. And as always, the Orchid Extravaganza is usually scheduled to take place in the month of August.
For this year, the theme is the story of the Butterfly. Nonetheless, we as you step in, the floral display theme is one of the caterpillar transforming into a butterfly amongst the beds of Orchids and the leftovers of the blue beauties bloom from the previous floral display.
. What lies ahead is to harness the spirit of the caterpillar and propel forward towards the spirit of the butterfly.

However, it will still be difficult for children this age to have the emotional sophistication to handle drawbacks, losses (such as in a game), and other setbacks. At age 6, children will also experience the insecurity that comes from spending more time away from home and will need and want the comfort and security of home and time with his parents.

本周，我们围绕脆弱森林和爬行世界的动物，展开了一系列探索认知活动。小朋友们首先画一画自己最难忘的动物，并和大家分享，他们最难忘的动物有小鼷鹿、环尾狐猴、马来大狐蝠、变色龙和蛇。然后，结合他们的兴趣点，我们通过视频、图片和资料搜寻共同学习了解这些动物的特点、生活习性等知识，如小鼷鹿是世界上最小的蹄类动物，它很聪明，喜欢吃水果和叶子等。最后，我们还一起制作了手工蛇。

第三学期第4周

本周，我们围绕太阳、月亮和星星，了解了许多和它们相关的知识，如太阳像个“大火球”，它给我们人类带来温暖，没有它就没有人类。同时，太阳的光有七种颜色等。我们还用角色扮演的形式感受了太阳、地球和月亮之间的位置关系和旋转形式。除此之外，我们学习了多首歌曲，制作了手工“星星”，并继续学习汉语拼音“b、p、m、f”。

Term 3 Week 3

During the week the children learnt about healthy habits. Healthy habits include eating a balanced diet, drinking lots of water, exercising regularly and having enough sleep. During cookery, we made ‘Healthy Oatmeal’. We added honey and fruits such as grapes, strawberries and blueberries to our oatmeal. It was the first time eating oats for most of us and we found it very tasty!

During the current affairs discussion, we read about the Land Transport Authority’s plans to build more bicycle parking lots at MRT stations. We discussed some possible reasons why there are more bicycles now as compared to before, and why more parking lots are needed. The children were spontaneous in their reasoning and some ideas included:

1) People enjoy exercising so they buy bicycles.
2) People want to see less pollution in the environment so they use bicycles instead of motor vehicles.
3) We need the parking lots because we can’t take bicycles onto the MRT.

The discussion helped us to support our learning this week - how to stay healthy.

Term 3, Week 4

How do we measure things? What do we use to measure things? These were some of the questions raised during the week. The children understood that we use 2 kinds of measurements – standard units, and non-standard units. Standard units of measurement may include the use of rulers and measuring tapes. Non-standard units of measurement may include the use of hands, paper clips and wooden blocks.

During the week, we were busy measuring things in the classroom using non-standard units of measurement. It was fun!

New Gen

If anyone has concerns over how the next generation of kids are turning out to be, let this be a reminder that we very much have hope. And the fate of the future lies in the hands of each and every one of you, because you are playing the role of a parent, a teacher, a mentor and most importantly, a good role model.

The future belongs to the children of today but you are the ones who shape it for them. So, teach them love, kindness, respect and humility, these are great virtues that never age with time and possibly the best gifts you can give them, and yourself.
