The Wind Game

这是第三学期的第八周,我们围绕“自然界”的主题来讨论学习,今天我们学习的课程是“风中的游戏”,幼儿初步了解风的形成,能用简单的华文说出风来时的一些现象。我们一起欣赏学习故事《风妹妹》,从中引导幼儿认识风的功能,一起学习朗读儿歌《风婆婆》,以游戏的方式感受风带来的快乐和凉爽。
During Term 3 Week 8, the topic of focus was 'Nature'. Today, we played a 'Wind Game'. The children learned how wind is formed. They are able to describe what happens when there is wind. We read the story <Sister Wind> and recited a nursery rhyme <Grandma Wind>. From the story, we learned the features of wind. 

The wind keeps us cool and brings us joy!

天生有一种浪漫的渴望,想到遥远的国度去探险,
开创出梦想中的丰功伟业。
不幸的是,他们的梦想通常会成为泡影。
因为他们大多不切实际,只凭着一股傻劲行动,
虽有可能出乎意料地让他们成功了,
但多半是搞活经济得乱七八糟。
他们的理想总有点超过他们的能力。
即使 “失败”,会觉得至少他们尝试过了,是值得了。

National Day

The children were so excited to celebrate Singapore's 51st Birthday in class. They decorated the outside of our classroom with banners which they coloured with enthusiasm. 

To celebrate, the children sang the National Anthem 'Majulah Singapura' and recited the Singapore Pledge with pride. Then they marched around the class like the soldiers at the National Day Parade. When they heard “Sedia!” (Attention!), they stood tall and straight and when they heard “Senang Diri!” (Stand at ease), they put their hands behind their backs with their eyes focused to the front - they certainly looked like soldiers. For craft, the children made a special “Singapore Visor” with Yang Liu which they wore proudly home.

The children also hand signed to the song “Count on me, Singapore” and “This is Home”, just like this year’s National Day Parade which had over 150 participants with special needs. The message behind this was to create awareness about inclusion amongst Singaporeans. In class, the K1s found out that people with hearing impairment hand signed to communicate with others and they also learnt how to use their hands to say “Thank you”, “Please” and “Yes”. 

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and understood the message behind this year’s celebration.

学习偏旁部首

这周是第七周,我们今天的教学活动是学习偏旁部首:”父字头“。首先让幼儿感受上下结构的汉字,了解学习父字头的汉字,知道很多汉字都有父字头,如:”爸爸,爷爷,斧头“。然后我们用白板来和”父字头“做游戏,一起用肢体表现“用斧头砍木头”的动作,明白汉字的组成规律。最后,我们尝试描写“父字头”以及“父字头”的汉字。
During week 7, we learned the prefix 父 (Fu). We explored words that include this prefix, such as, 'father', 'grandfather' and 'axe'. We played games on the Interactive Whiteboard. We also dramatized the cutting of wood using an axe. Lastly, we traced words with the 父 (Fu) prefix.

Shadow Play

这是第三学期的第六周,这周我们是围绕“自然界”进行学习,今天我们的教学主题是“手影游戏”。首先我们以游戏的方式引导幼儿看看自己的影子在什么情况下出现,在什么情况下又不见了,学习光和影子的关系。然后让幼儿自由变换手指动作,在光的作用下变出各种奇形怪状的影子,并让他们说说变得是什么?最后,我们以歌曲舞蹈的形式来学习儿歌《影子》,让幼儿能明白儿歌的内容。
Our theme for Term 3 Week 6 was 'Nature'. The topic today was 'Shadow Play'.The children created shadows during game time. They were asked questions like, 'How do shadows appear?' and 'How do shadows disappear?' Through these questions, they were able to learn the relation between light and shadows. Next, the children were encouraged to create shadow images and share what they had created. Lastly, we sang and dance to the song <Shadow>.

Maths Trail

When we came back from our maths trail at the Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay, the children agreed on a few activities to do in class based on what they saw and the activities they did in the dome. 

They planned to draw the venue (Gardens By the Bay), create a house using various shapes (they were inspired by a “mangosteen” house they saw in the dome), go on a maths trail around the school and do a patterning activity in class. They even planned a sorting game in our indoor playground. And that was exactly what they did. What a busy week! Check out the photos!

Travel Around

“Cars, buses, trains, taxis, motorcycles, school buses!” the children answered excitedly. This week, we explored the places where we can find buses and trains, for example, the various bus interchanges and MRT (Mass Rapid Transportation) stations in Singapore. The children role-played scenarios of waiting in line to take a pretend bus and train. They also created colourful and interesting EZ link cards to use during the role-play. 

For craft, they painted the type of transport they use to get to school. Firstly, they recalled the shapes they have learnt recently. Secondly, they drew the shapes to create buses, taxis and cars. Finally, they completed the pictures by using bright and vibrant paint. 
For maths, the children reviewed the concept of patterning by creating a pattern with pictures of transportation. This was particularly pleasing because they created the patterns independently. Great job, K1s!
