During the week, the children were introduced to the topic of ‘Money’.

First, the childen looked at the different note series that were printed in Singapore. These include the ‘Orchid’, ‘Bird’, ‘Ship’, and ‘Portrait’ series. These notes came in denominations such as $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 and $500. It was interesting to see how the Singapore notes have evolved through the years. The children were able to relate to the current ‘Portrait’ series and they were curious to find out who the man on the Singapore note was. We did some research and we found out that the mysterious man was none other than Singapore’s first president, Yusof bin Ishak!

After learning about the different denominations of money used in Singapore, we played a game on the Interactive Whiteboard. We had to purchase our tickets to the places of interest in Singapore and give the exact amount required. The children did a great job at that!

Parents, you may engage in some fun role play activities at home with your child. Learning about how to use money will help children be better prepared when buying food in Primary Schools. Do talk about the value of money and the importance of saving as well!
